All ferry services from Sicily operate all year round from the ports of Catania, Messina, Termini Imerese and Palermo to the main ports on the Italian peninsula such as Salerno, Naples, Civitavecchia, Livorno and Genoa.

The Strait of Messina is the shortest connection between the mainland and Sicily, the ferry crossing from Sicily to Calabria (Villa San Giovanni - Messina) takes only 20 minutes. The two major Italian islands, Sicily and Sardinia, are connected by the Palermo Cagliari crossing.
