Caronte & Tourist All departures and offers on Mr Ferry!
The company Caronte was founded in the mid-1960s and established the first connection on the Strait of Messina on the route Messina - Reggio Calabria. Three years later the Tourist Ferry Boat opened the new connection on the route Messina - Villa San Giovanni, a shorter route and therefore much appreciated by users, which will lead the company to make new investments, renew its fleet and improve the service.
In 2001 also the new ferry connection on the Messina - Salerno route was established, realizing the "Autrostrade D'Amare" project, which offers a real transport alternative for people, vehicles and goods. In 2003 the shipping company Caronte & Tourist was officially born from the merger of two different companies, the Calabrian Caronte and the Sicilian Tourist Ferry Boat.
In 2018, another important goal is achieved: environmental sustainability: the new ship Elio, powered by LNG hydrocarbon, has a very low environmental impact and significantly reduces emissions of oxides and CO2.
Caronte & Tourist Fleet and on board services
The connections Caronte & Tourist, are active between Sicily and Campania with the route Messina - Salerno, which offers daily departures in the afternoon or at night. The Villa San Giovanni - Messina route, on the other hand, connects Calabria and Sicily and guarantees numerous day and night departures, which increase significantly during the high season. The Caronte & Tourist departures are operated by a renewed fleet of 10 vessels.
The ferries Caronte & Tourist, which the company uses for the short connections on the Strait of Messina, are real platforms, completely open, allowing travelers to stay in the comfort of their own vehicle. Instead, on the Caronte & Tourist line Salerno - Messina, the ferries offer various services such as bar, restaurant, toilet, TV, children's playground, air-conditioned reclining salons, indoor or outdoor cabins, all with private bathroom and exclusive access.
Between April and September, and usually only on weekends, there is a "camping on board service" that allows passengers to stay in their own camper, although they can use all the services on board.
Caronte & Tourist offers assistance to passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility. Those traveling by vehicle are entitled to reserved parking in the garage in a more convenient position to reach the upper decks. Specially equipped cabins with private bathrooms are also available.
On board the ships Caronte & Tourist are also allowed pets, which must remain in the kennel or on the outside decks in the reserved areas.
