The island is famous for its muscatel production and for its pottery, which you can buy in the craft shops. One of the main villages is Samos Karlovassi, located in the northern part of the island. The first settlements in the village were by the Ottomans, in ancient times it was called Palaio and it was here that the temple in honour of Dionysus was built.
Among its streets you will find the old tanneries, once the village was very famous for its textile production, today its citizens are skilled fishermen. One of the most beautiful beaches is Karlovassi, a mixed beach with transparent water surrounded by lush vegetation.
