Travemünde is a picturesque seaside resort, part of the district of Lübeck in the region of Schleswig Holstein. Thanks to the many activities it offers, and especially thanks to its long, golden sandy beach, it attracts thousands of visitors every year.
As the ferry approaches Travemünde, you can admire a small picture-postcard landscape with its colourful, historic houses and the old, traditional lighthouse. Most of the houses were built after 1807 as summer residences, and the same goes for the main buildings such as the railway station, the Grand Casino and the elegant Kurhaus hotel. Strolling along its boulevards and promenade, you will immediately be enraptured by the holiday atmosphere of this charming district.
Spend a day at the beach, perhaps renting a typical Strandkorb, a four-poster sun lounger made of wicker that guarantees maximum comfort and convenience at the beach. Then, stroll along the Travepromenade, which runs along the mouth of the river. Here you will find numerous places where you can enjoy typical Baltic dishes, dine while watching the sunset and spend a pleasant evening in the various typical bars and pubs. If you want to indulge in some shopping, here you will find several small shops where you can find the perfect gift to take home.
One stop that cannot be missed is a visit to the old sailing ship Passat, a museum ship anchored at the mouth of the river Trave that has become one of the city's landmarks. In Travemünde, many tourists are also attracted by the traditional regatta week, the Travemunderwoche, which attracts thousands of participants every year. In addition to the sailing races, the town comes alive with events, live music and excellent street food stands. Finally, the annual sand sculpture festival features Europe's best artists exhibiting their creations on the waterfront.
