Why visit Malmö? Here are a few things to see and do:
• Walk around Gamla staden, the city's old quarter characterised by colourful ancient houses. There are two main squares in this area: Stortorget houses the elegant town hall; concerts and festivals often take place here. The other is Lilla Torg, where you can see brick and half-timbered houses dating back to the late 16th century. It's a perfect place to stop for a meal in one of the restaurants with outdoor terrace and get a taste of the city life.
• Go see Malmöhus Castle, an imposing 15th-century fortress. Inside is the art museum, with a rich collection of European and Scandinavian artists.
• Don't miss the Turning Torso which, at 90 metres, is the tallest residential skyscraper in Sweden. Built by the famous architect Calatrava, it is inspired by the shapes of the human body in motion and is one of the most distinctive buildings on the Malmö skyline.
🍃 Take a walk in the green! Near the castle you will find the Kungsparken park, crossed by many bridges and canals, and the adjoining Slottsparken, popular with children who stop to admire the ducks and swans swimming in the artificial pond.
🐟 Go to Fiskehoddorna, the region's main fish market. The fishermen bring fresh goods there every morning. Besides the catch of the day, you can find seafood, locally smoked salmon and pickled herring.
• Head to Möllevångstorget, a beautiful square that is the centre of the city's nightlife with its many restaurants and nightclubs. In the morning, a market with typical local products is held there.
• If you are travelling with children, head to Folkets Park, a popular playground with swings, merry go rounds, and plenty of activities for the little ones.
