The Island of Ustica is nicknamed The Black Pearl of the Mediterranean because of its dark, volcanic rocks that surround the island. The island is located off the coast of Palermo, in fact you can reach the city in no time thanks to the Ustica Palermo route.

The connection between Ustica and Palermo is provided by two shipping companies, Siremar and Liberty Lines, which manage to offer up to five daily departures, intensifying the number of runs in high season.

Siremar operates about seven connections per week with a duration of about three hours; it is possible to board vehicles with this company since they use conventional ferries.Liberty Lines on the other hand offers 14 departures per week with a duration of one hour and 30 minutes, in fact using hydrofoils, where it will not be possible to board any vehicles

 As a reminder, for the month of August the movement of vehicles in Ustica is prohibited, only residents of the island will be able to transit with vehicles.

🐾 You may choose to travel with your pet, remember that if your pet does not exceed 10 kg it will have to travel in a pet carrier, if it is larger it must have a muzzle and leash. They will not be able to stay in the interior or dining areas of the ferry, but you will easily find areas located on both the outer and inner decks where your four-legged friends can also enjoy the crossing

➜ What to do in Ustica?

The island has a volcanic origin, so the beaches are characterized by sand and black pebbles; you won't be able to miss some of the most famous ones such as Spiaggia del Faro, the Natural Pool of Ustica or Cala Sidoti.

You can go diving in Ustica, you will come across numerous schools of fish such as barracuda and tuna, you can also see Posidonia oceanica.

A trekking on the Sentiero del Mezzogiorno will allow you to see and admire the volcanic cliffs from above.

On the ferries that operate the Ustica Palermo route, you will be able to find a variety of services that will allow you to have a relaxing and comfortable trip. You'll find snack bars and cafeterias, armchair lounge, and self-service restaurants.

🐾 As for pets, on the other hand, in addition to taking them with you on the ship's decks, you can also decide to leave them in a special cabin for dogs and cats located in the ship's garage and equipped with air conditioning, this option is valid only on ferries and not hydrofoils.

.Remember to have everything you need to board your four-legged friend: leash, muzzle if required, carrier and necessary health documentation.

On the ferries and hydrofoils that operate the Ustica Palermo route, due to the short duration of the trip you will not find accommodations such as cabins but simple deck accommodation or seats.

The companies provide the possibility of carrying one piece of luggage, which, however, must not exceed a certain weight which is 10 kg.
