Oslo is the capital of Norway and the economic centre of the country. It is located in the Southeastern part of Norway, and it lies in the heart of the Oslo Fjord. The city has much to offer, both in summer and in winter: there are many shops, museums, restaurants. The city area has a wide network of ski slopes, connected to the city centre with the metro line. In summer, you can hike in the forests and valleys enjoying the temperate climate.

The port of Oslo is one of the major Scandinavian ports, and connects Norway to Denmark . From the Norwegian coast, it is possible to reach Denmark thanks to the Oslo – Copenhagen ferry and the Oslo – Frederikshavn ferry connections. The port is extremely important for the economy of the country, with three million annual passengers it redirects the visitors to different parts of the country.

Ferries from Oslo to Copenhagen and from Oslo to Frederikshavn are provided all year round by the ferry company DFDS , serving up to 7 weekly sailings for both destinations. The Oslo Copenhagen crossing lasts approximately 19 hours. To approach the port of Frederikshavn ferries take about 10 hours. Frequency and durations may vary according to the season.

Ferries operating the Norway Denmark routes carry both passengers and vehicles, and luggage restrictions are not applied. On board, travellers can choose among the wide range of cabins DFDS ferries provide.

The Oslo Ferry Terminal offers basic facilities to its guests like a departure lounge, restrooms, parking places and a cafeteria. There are also restrooms, Wi-Fi service, vending machines and money change. Numerous bars and restaurants are located close to the ferry terminal. The city centre is just a 15 minutes walk, there you can find also supermarkets, hotels, and pharmacies.

Oslo ferries About Oslo

With the ferries to and from Olso you can start a wonderful holiday and discover the stunning Norwegian nature, with its glaciers, snowy peaks, charming fjords, the midnight sun and the futuristic cities.

Oslo has numerous cultural attractions in relation to the Viking Era and the seafaring tradition, but it is also a dynamic metropolis with avant-garde architecture, many interesting shops, and a lively nightlife. Don’t miss the Viking Ship Museum, where you can see three almost perfectly preserved vessels. History lovers can visit the Akershus fort, which is very close to the ferry boardings.

If you like art, heat to the Munch Museum, recently moved in a new location with a futuristic design: here you can get to know the expressionist painter’s masterpieces. However, the Scream, his most famous panting, is displayed at the Nasjonalmuseet, where you will also see the works of Norwegian and international artists and discover the development of art from Romanticism to the present day.

For a day in the open-air, you can choose between different destinations: first you can take a stroll along the Karl Johans Gate, the main street in the city centre, connecting the train station to the royal castle. Head toward the sea and visit the Opera House, a huge avant-garde building whose white marble surfaces seem to emerge from the water. Follow the shoreline and arrive in Aker Brygge, a beautiful waterfront with many shops and restaurants. Go to Vigelandpark, full of statues dedicated to the human life cycle, or take a break from the city and spend a day on the Sognsvann lake, one of the preferred destinations by Oslo residents in sunny days.

Take a ferry to Oslo and combine adventure, culture and nature in a single holiday!
