Take a ferry to Las Palmas to discover the Canary islands and its most famous places! Las Palmas, most populated urban center of the archipelago, is the largest city on the island of Gran Canaria and the capital of the province of the same name, which also includes the islands of Fuerteventura and Arrecife

The city of Las Palmas was founded at the end of the 15th century and its development was favored by the discovery of America, which made its port a key stopover on the routes to the New World.

Even today, Puerto de la Luz, the name by which the commercial and tourist port of Las Palmas is known, is still one of the most important in Spain. With an estimated number of transit passengers of around one million a year, Las Palmas plays a key role both internationally and for internal connections between the Canary Islands and with the Peninsula.

🚢 Ferries to and from Las Palmas are operated by the companies Naviera Armas and Fred Olsen Express, which offer departures to the mainland ports of Huelva and Cadiz and daily connections to the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura (both Morro Jable and Puerto del Rosario), Tenerife, La Gomera and La Palma.

The port area of Las Palmas is located along the entire northwest coast of the city, all the way to the peninsula of La Isleta and offers a multitude of services, such as ferry terminals, a shopping center, bars, restaurants, a bus station, numerous hotels and hostels, car rental, banks and stores of all kinds.

Las Palmas ferries About Las Palmas

No matter if your final destination is relaxing on the dunes of Maspalomas or hiking on the slopes of Pico de las Nieves: once you arrive in Las Palmas, you can't miss this lively city, rich in history and crossroads of different cultures for more than five centuries.

Near the port you can visit the Poema del Mar aquarium, which houses not only fish and animals of all species and sizes, but also a bar-restaurant where you can relax with the whole family!

From Puerto de La Luz, you can reach the Parque de Santa Catalina, a square dotted with palm trees and surrounded by bars and restaurants open day and night, making this the liveliest area of Las Palmas.

Continuing west, you will find the longest beach in the city: Las Canteras. Bordered by a promenade lined with facilities, stores and bars where you can enjoy local specialties, you will find a stretch of sand more than three kilometers long, perfect for relaxing, but also for water and beach sports. Las Canteras also hosts since 2006 the sand sculpture exhibition of Bélen de Arena, which receives every year the best exponents of this art.

Las Palmas is also an old city and in its historic quarter, Vegueta, you can take a dip in the past, visiting the Plaza de Santa Ana and its cathedral, which dates back to 1497, or the church of Santo Domingo de Guzman. Don't worry about getting lost in the neighborhood streets and immersing yourself in the local life: Vegueta offers many bars and restaurants, as well as a local market where you can buy all kinds of food.
