Ferries Frederikshavn

Frederikshavn is a small town on the northern tip of Denmark with a long maritime tradition. Historically an important centre of the shipping and fishing industry, today it is also the departure port for ferries to Sweden and Norway.

Passenger ferries operate all year round and depart for Gothenburg in Sweden and for the Norwegian capital Oslo.

In 2015, a major redevelopment of the port area was initiated, building a ferry terminal, a trading port and a large service centre. With 2 million passengers per year, the port of Frederikshavn is one of the largest and busiest in Scandinavia.

The Frederikshavn ferry terminal has toilets, bars, vending machines, an information centre, an indoor lounge area and convenient parking facilities. Short-term parking is free, but if you need to leave your vehicle for a longer time, pay parking is available. Being close to the city centre, further services such as banks, pharmacies, various shops and restaurants are within easy reach.

Frederikshavn is small but quaint: here you can stroll through the streets of the centre and admire several historical buildings related to its maritime tradition. In the lively harbour area you can discover typical shops and restaurants where you can enjoy the catch of the day. Climb the 315 steps of the Cloostarnet tower to enjoy the view of the entire surrounding landscape, or stroll through the beautiful forests surrounding the city.

Head to the Frederikshavn Botanical Garden and admire flowers and plants from around the world. If you want to relax on a beautiful beach, Palm Beach is the right choice, an expanse of golden sand where you can sunbathe or sip a drink at one of the many outdoor stands. Take a trip to the Hirsholmene, an archipelago located opposite the city where you will find unspoilt nature.

Because of its geographical location, the city of Frederikshavn is a perfect starting point to begin the discovery of the entire Danish territory. In fact, it is located in the northernmost part of the Jutland peninsula, the country's most touristic region. North of Frederikshavn is Skagen, the northernmost point of Denmark. In summer, the area is popular with tourists due to its long sandy beaches, making it an ideal destination for family travellers or water sports enthusiasts. If you like surfing, head to the west coast to Klitmøller, the surfing hangout for all of Denmark.

Finally, don't miss the city of Aalborg, the fourth largest in the country. The best restaurants, several landmark buildings of avant-garde architecture and a charming old town with typical colourful houses await you. Aalborg is a creative and eventful city. If you travel in the last week of May, don't miss the city carnival with parades, theatre performances and live music.

Frederikshavn harbour is about 10 minutes from the city centre and about a 20-minute walk from the train and bus station, which connect it to the capital Copenhagen as well as other cities such as Aalborg, Odense and Skagen. It is also easily accessible by car by following the E45 to Frederikshavn and from Aalborg Airport, which is about 70 km away. A taxi service and parking facilities are available in front of the ferry terminal.
