Ferries to DoverPort connections and services

The port of Dover, situated in Kent (South East England), with around 13 millions of passengers per year, is one of the busiest passenger ports in Europe and hosts some of the most famous cruise lines. Thanks to the many passengers who travel by ferry from Dover to Calais and from Dover to Dunkirk, the annual traffic is increasing more and more.

The connections from Dover to Calais are operated by the ferry companies DFDS and Irish Ferries, the length of the journey is 1,30 hours. There are several sailings offered both by day and by night. The companies carry out the crossing with modern ferries that offer all the necessary services on board.

The Dover Dunkirk crossing lasts 2 hours and there is one departure every 2 hours. It is operated by the ferry company DFDS.

On both routes, booking your ticket with a vehicle is mandatory.

The port of Dover is divided into two different sections, the Eastern docks, which is the passenger and cargo terminal, and the Western docks (cruise terminal and marina), about 1 km apart. Inside the port, essential services such as restaurants, toilets, currency exchange, cash point, vending machines, free Wi-Fi access, and a car rental are available.

For people with reduced mobility, restroom facilities are available in different locations throughout the ferry terminal; wheelchair ramps are fitted on all the levels of the building.

If you travel with your pet, and arrive to the port a little early, you can take it to the pet exercise area near the check-in point.

The city of Dover, which centre lies about 2 kilometres from the eastern docks, offers various services such as hotels, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, hospitals, pharmacies, banks, and shops of all kinds.

Dover ferries About Dover

Dover’s history dates back to the Roman times, when it was the so called "Gateway to England", since its port was frequently used to connect northern France to London and the North of Great Britain. Thanks to its position, the city also played an extremely important defensive role for the country during the World War II.

The White Cliffs of Dover are a world-famous landmark: with their 110 metres height and bright white colour, they are visible from France. The Dover Castle is one of the largest castles in England; it was built one thousand years ago, although the site has been inhabited from the Iron Age. If you love the great outdoors, you can stroll along the Cliffs and the Western Heights, and you can explore the Pines Garden.

Dover is the perfect gateway for touring the charming Kent region: there are many castles, the astounding Canterbury Cathedral, with its combination of Gothic and Romanesque style, and the beautiful town of Maidstone, where you can admire many historical buildings and the enchanted Leeds Castle

After exploring the region of South East England, you can take your car and, with a 2 hours drive, reach London, the capital of the country and one of the most visited cities in the world.
