Viking Line All departures and offers on MrFerry!

Viking Line is a Finnish shipping company based in the city of Mariehamn, in the Aland Islands.

The origins of Viking Line date back to 1959, when several sailors and businessmen from the province of Åland got together and the S/S ferry Viking of the company Vikinglinjen Ab, founded by Captain Gunnar Eklund, crossed the Baltic Sea for the first time.

In the following years, cooperation between the companies Vikinglinjen Ab, Rederi AB Slite, Ålandsfärjan Ab and Oy Viking Line Ab opened a new era of vehicle and passenger transport between mainland Finland, the Åland Islands and Sweden. At first, these new routes were viewed with skepticism, but time has confirmed that it has been an excellent travel opportunity for northern European travelers.

Until now, freight between Sweden and Finland was only transported by land. By sea, transport was expensive, time-consuming and vehicles had difficulty boarding. Viking Line's new shipping lines finally made it possible for goods, vehicles and passengers to travel faster and cheaper.

In 1960, the company moved its destination port to Kapellskär and, in 1963, established a route between Mariehamn and Kapellskär.

In 1970, the company purchased three new ships, designed for the first time to offer ample space for the transport of vehicles and equipped with all the necessary amenities to make the passengers' journey a pleasant one. Viking Line can be considered the forerunner of the cruise-ferry concept, i.e. the combination of a cruise ship and a conventional ferry.

Today, Viking Line ferries take you comfortably to the main Baltic ports in Estonia, Finland, Sweden and the Åland Islands.

Viking Line Fleet and on board services

Viking Line ships combine the luxury and sumptuousness of cruise ships with decks for large-capacity vehicles, thus meeting the needs of both freight traffic and tourists wishing to continue their journey by car through Scandinavia.

Viking Line ferries connect the port of Helsinki with the Estonian capital Tallin, the central port of the Swedish capital Stockholm and Mariehamn , the main port of the Åland islands.

Other Viking Line ferries operate from the Finnish port of Turku to the two ports of Långnäs and Mariehamn on the Åland Islands, from where you can travel to Stockholm. The port of Kapellskär can only be reached from the port of Mariehamn.

Viking Line's fleet:

Viking Line's fleet consists of 7 modern and safe ferries, equipped with all kinds of amenities and services.

Depending on the ship you travel on, you will find various facilities for your convenience and comfort, such as bars, self-service and à la carte restaurants, saunas and wellness centers, casinos and discos. Children have play areas dedicated to them. You will also find stores where you can buy souvenirs, tobacco, local delicacies, cosmetics and clothing.

Accomodations:

When traveling on Viking Line ferries you can choose between different types of cabins. Depending on your needs, the ship offers standard and sea view cabins, premium cabins, balcony cabins, cabins for families or passengers with reduced mobility and suites. All have exclusive access and private bathrooms.

Pets:

Your four-legged friends are welcome on Viking Line ferries! If you are traveling  on an overnight trip, you can take your pet in the cabin. On short trips, your pet will travel free of charge in the car, but unfortunately you will not be able to visit your pet during the trip. We always recommend that you mention your pet when booking.
