Why choose the ferry from San Sebastián to Valle Gran Rey?
Of course, you can also go from one location to the other by land, but the travel time is longer and the road, although scenic, is rather long and winding. In fact, this goes through the highest peaks of La Gomera, which reach almost 1,500 meters above sea level! Given the length of the trip (and the fact that you'll be able to relax and enjoy the view of the sea while sailing!), the ferry from San Sebastián is ideal, whether you want to take a day trip to Valle Gran Rey or stay for a longer period.
What to do in Valle Gran Rey?
Once you disembark in Valle Gran Rey, you'll quickly realize that the value of this resort lies precisely in its location: situated at the end of the Barranco del Agua, it is surrounded by high cliffs and has numerous beaches of fine black sand, lapped by crystal-clear waters. A stone's throw from the port, you can immediately dive into Playa de Vueltas, topped by Mount Tequergenche, some 600 meters high. The two largest beaches, on the other hand, are La Puntilla and La Calera, ideal for diving. For surfers, however, we recommend Charco de La Condesa.
In addition to the beaches, Valle Gran Rey's great fortune is the surrounding nature, protected by Garajonay National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Indeed, the surroundings are populated by numerous endemic animal and plant species, such as the giant lizard of La Gomera. Exploration is facilitated by the many hiking trails, suitable for all ages. You can also find several scenic viewpoints along the roads, from which you can admire the rugged volcanic profile of the island, softened by the vegetation and terrace crops typical of the area.
