If you are planning a trip to the Balearic Islands, you might consider traveling between the islands and learning about the myriad nuances this beautiful archipelago has to offer.

What better way than by ferry? MrFerry guides you through the choice of your itinerary, providing you with all the connections of the best shipping companies, always at the best guaranteed price!

If you are on the island of Mallorca and want to reach neighboring Menorca, the best way is to depart from the port of Alcúdia and disembark in Ciutadella.

🛳️ All departures from Alcúdia to Ciutadella.

The Alcúdia Ciutadella route is the shortest between the islands of Mallorca and Menorca and runs daily throughout the year. The frequency of departures can vary by season, with an increase during the summer period.

There are two shipping companies operating between Alcúdia and Ciutadella:

- Balearia makes 2 departures per day during the low season, 4 departures during the high season. It uses both ferries and catamarans, so the duration ranges from 1 to 2 hours.

- Trasmapi makes 2 crossings per day by catamaran, lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Occasionally, you can find Corsica Ferries departures lasting 2 hours, which is an intermediate segment of the seasonal Toulon-Ciutadella route.

As you can see, these departures are perfect if you are in Mallorca and want to take a one- or two-day trip to Menorca, which is why they are widely used by tourists and locals alike. Below, we give you some ideas for visiting the island for a short stay.

🏖️ What to do in Menorca?

The first thing to say is that to get around Menorca it is worth having a vehicle, perhaps a scooter, to get around on the unpaved roads that lead to the beautiful beaches and coves. With the ferries from Alcúdia to Ciutadella you will have the possibility to take your vehicle with you, but if you prefer, you can also rent it conveniently near the port.

First, we recommend that you don't miss a tour of Ciutadella, a quaint port town marked by centuries of the most diverse cultural influences. Among the streets and historic buildings in the center you can admire numerous examples of Arab and Gothic architecture. The old port is ideal for a romantic stroll, some small shopping and sampling the local gastronomic tradition.

For beaches, you'll be spoiled for choice. Around Ciutadella, we recommend that you don't miss the southwest coast of Menorca. Here you'll find beaches such as Cala Turqueta, a 10-minute drive from Ciutadella, a paradise of fine sand and turquoise waters, surrounded by green pine forest. Further east, there's Cala Macarella, about a 25-minute drive away: similar to Cala Turqueta in terms of its clear waters and off-white sand, it's interesting because it's lined with cliffside hiking trails that will allow you to admire the beautiful cove from above, as well as to reach the nearby beaches of Macarelleta and Cala Galdana.

If you want to dive into Menorca's oldest history, 4 kilometers from Ciutadella is Naveta d'Es Tudons, a funerary monument that some believe to be the oldest in Europe (around 1000 B.C.). A little further on, continuing on the road to Mahón, you'll find other vestiges of the prehistoric Talayotic civilization, such as the village of Torralba d'en Salord and the Torre d'en Galmés.
